Question:

E-Trade vs. Scottrade?

I've been wanting to start an account with an online discount brokerage and I've narrowed it down to E-trade and Scottrade. Is there anyone who can compare and contrast the two? I'd like to hear any and all opinions from anyone who has experience with either. Thanks!

  1. E*Trade is better for it's features, such as access to more mutual funds families and support. Scottrade is more bare bone. If you don't know what to do, their is less support. If you just want to be able to trade stocks, Scottrade is better as a discount brokerage. E*Trade would have a little meat just in case your hungry and decide to have a bit.

  2. No difference.  They both take payments to send your orders to some trading company rather than the exchange.  This is called "payment for order flow".  I don't understand why it's legal, but it is.
