Question:

E-commerce website - hosting requirements?

Hi

I'm planning to create an e-commerce site using x-cart and I'm wondering if there are any requirements for how it is hosted...

Will I need a dedicated server? Or will a shared server be just as good? I know I'll need an SSL certificate but again - shared or dedicated? Any info you can give me would be great.

Thanks.

  1. Jaaames, I found a large online list of personal website hosting services. http://www.findwebsitehost.com Finding a local webhosting service might have advantages since you can visit their facility in case something goes wrong.

  2. Don't waste your monry on dedicated servers. It's really unnecessary. Shared web hosting services are not only cheaper, but also more easy-to-use. I run 2 business websites through my shared web host (inmotion) for over 3 yrs now, and have never had a single problem with them.

Take a look at: http://threehosts.atspace.com/business There you can reach the three reputable companies that are leaders in the E-commerce web hosting industry.  They offer domain, hosting, ssl, shopping carts...

  3. Shared server should be fine, I used Godaddy when  was selling things online you should look into their plans because they have a plan that includes an ssl cirtificate and all you will need, go for a linux host though!

Other than that check the requirments for your chosen script

  4. Initially go for shared server , later you can upgrade to dedicated web hosting , you can check review of top ten web hosting service providers at website like http://aplis.net/ .
