We've been in the US under parents E2 visa since 12 years and normally we will renew it in Nov where I'll still be 20, but what happens next year when I turn 21?

I already read different articles saying E2's can't get greencards, and if i could go to a university here, would I have to go back to my original country or apply it from here?

  1. E-2 dependents are spouses and children. Anyone unmarried and under the age of 21 is a child. On your 21st birthday, you will no longer qualify for the E-2 dependent status you are currently enjoying.

You can change status inside the U.S. For example, if you are currently a full-time student at a school that can issue a SEVIS I-20, you could ask the Foreign Student Adviser for an I-20, and apply for a change of status from E-2 to F-1.

That would buy you some more time in the U.S. and put off the inevitable which is that someday, your time in the U.S. may come to an end.
