Hideo Kojima confirms that attendees to 2012’s Electronic Entertainment Expo, will be treated to a playable demo of Raiden’s debut, Metal Gear Rising Revengeance.
E3 may not be for another couple of months yet developers and publishers are not shying away from building up the hype for their respective titles.
Hideo Kojima, who is the Godfather of the Metal Gear Solid games, has added his voice to the hype building bandwagon as he confirmed that gamers will find a playable demo of Metal Gear Rising Revengeance on the show room floor at E3.
The Rising series is an offshoot of the core, solid, series as its gameplay is based more around a slash and hack action based gameplay as opposed to the more traditional stealth based gameplay of the original.
In fact, Mr. Kojima has between little and nothing to do with the project apart from giving it the occasional nod of approval, as Revengeance is currently being developed by a completely different studios. Platinum Games is a studio not many may have heard
of yet they are under huge pressure from the gaming community to deliver.
Revengeance also marks the first game from the Metal Gear series to be multiplatform as the previous entries in the franchise have been exclusive to Sony’s PlayStation consoles.
The game will see a change in protagonists as well, as Solid Snake will no longer in the hands of the game, instead his protégé, Raiden and his rather attractive looking sword will be looking to fill the void left by the Metal Gear veteran.
While commenting on why the stealth aspect was removed for Revengeance, the developer stated that it “didn’t fit with the new nature of the game.”
Apparently the game is looking to appeal to the masses as the only criticism of the previous entries was that its emphasis on stealth meant that there was a demographic of gamers who found the series rather daunting.
Whether the change in dynamic was a good move or not remains to be seen, yet everyone can get a taste of it at E3 where Mr. Kojima and Platinum Games are set to show it off.
