EA Sports unveils new Madden 13 cover featuring Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson - NFL News
Detroit Lions wide receiver, Calvin Johnson, this season was voted by fans onto the cover of Electronic Arts (EA) latest video game in the Madden franchise and the new cover was finally unveiled to the waiting fans on Tuesday.
EA Sports is set to release the newest installation of the popular series, Madden 13 ahead of the new 2012-13 season and with Calvin Johnson gracing the cover the game is bound to be an explosive experience for fans of the franchise much like the wide receiver.
The new cover showcases the Lions star wide receiver preparing to receive a pass against the backdrop of the city of Detroit and the Lions home at Ford Field under a stormy sky.
Johnson has during his five years in the National Football League (NFL) cemented his place as one of the elite receivers in the league but last season surpassed all his previous production statistics thanks to a much better Lions passing game as quarterback,
Matthew Stafford finally overcame his previous injury problems.
Detroit Lions were brilliant in 2011-12 as Johnson and Stafford combined extremely well to lead the franchise to its first playoff appearance since 1999.
The wide receiver made 96 receptions for a league best receiving yardage of 1,681 and scored 16 touchdowns the second highest number in the league.
Johnson’s fine form and the Lions overall resurgence under head coach, Jim Schwartz’s leadership led to one of the best seasons for the fans in many years as the team ended up with a 10-6 record.
Now the wide receiver has deservedly gained the honour of featuring on the cover of one of the most highly expected sports games of the year.
Johnson beat off competition from Carolina Panthers, quarterback, Cam Newton, who received 48% of the vote.
All eyes will be on the wide receiver for the upcoming season as fans hope that the infamous Madden Curse does not hit Johnson like all previous players to have featured on the cover.
The cover looks brilliant and now fans will hope that the game itself lives up to the hype and provide them an even better experience than previous instalments of the game.
