EA announces pre-order bonuses for FIFA 12 - PS3, Xbox 360
Electronic Arts seems to want to reward the loyal fans who are looking to order the latest iteration of the best selling football simulation game, FIFA 12, as it announces its pre-order bonuses.
The bonuses will only be available to players who order the FIFA 12’s Ultimate Edition, before its official release. While gamers can still pre-order the standard edition, it will not come with any pre-order incentives, making it a very shrewd marketing
move from EA as they look to secure a few early sales of the Ultimate Edition.
The title ‘Ultimate Edition’ actually gives away quite a fair bit on what the bonuses are related to. The term Ultimate Team is something every FIFA fan is familiar with. The trading card based game started off as just a mini-game in the earlier editions
of FIFA, before going on to grow into one of FIFA’s most played modes.
For those who are not familiar with the Ultimate Team however, it is important to clarify how it works before moving on to the pre-order incentives, otherwise they will lack the ability to make sense.
Ultimate team revolves around a gamer building up his team from scratch. The way he does this is by buying, or unlocking, card packs. Each pack has a certain number of players with varying skills and attributes, which the player can choose to include in
his team, trade with other players or sell on the market.
The packs themselves come in different categories, namely: Bronze, Silver and Gold. The Bronze packs have ‘bronze’ players, which similar to the Olympic games, having the less skilled players. The Silver packs have better players, while the Gold packs consist
of superstars, while some packs also include fitness boosts, manager attribute enhancements and other such ‘power ups’.
So every player on FIFA Ultimate Team values these Gold packs above others and EA seem to have noticed as they have announced 24 Gold packs to each player who pre-orders the Ultimate Edition.
According to an official EA representative, the Gold Packs will have more than just players on offer, "Gold Packs consist of players rated 75+ in-game and include one rare item. Rare items include enhanced player attributes, longer contracts and the most
coveted players."
However, there is a slight catch as the player will not be able to use all the 24 Gold packs at once. In an effort to prolong the benefits of the pre-order, the packs will be unlocked in groups of four every month. That means players will get four packs
every month for six months.
FIFA 12: Ultimate Edition is set for release on the 30th of September and is priced between £44.99 and £54.99, depending on where the purchase is made.
