EA are not going to base Battlefield 3’s success on how Modern Warfare 3 does in the market
EA have gone on to state that they are not going to base the success of Battlefield 3 on how Modern Warfare 3 does in the market. According to EA’s chief operating officer, Peter Moore, they are not looking to outsell Modern Warfare 3, but are eyeing to
make a name for themselves on their own basis.
At the moment, what Battlefield 3 plans to do, is to penetrate the market and try and become one of the most dominant forces in the FPS world. With the market currently being dominated by Call of Duty, the team are looking to initially win some customers,
before eventually taking over for good.
In a recent interview, Moore was quoted to have said, “It's less about being second place. This is about taking market share.”
He then went on to emphasise over the fact that his strategy, if anything, was going to make Battlefield a much bigger house hold name over the coming years which in the long run is going to be far more beneficial to the series.
He added, “This is really about a long-term strategy in what we think is a very important shooter segment that has driven over the last few years multiple billions of dollars of revenue into the industry.”
Moore then went on to compare the rivalry between the two FPS’s to the contention that Pro Evolution Soccer and FIFA had in the past. While comparing the two, he stated, “If you remember, FIFA and Pro Evolution Soccer used to be as recently as three or four
years ago, head-to-head in a lot of markets, with PES as the dominant brand.”
Moore then went on to state that team had invested in getting the quality of the game as high as it could possibly be. He then stated that watching at how they succeeded with FIFA, they are planning to incorporate the same mentality in developing Battlefield
and hopefully, become market leaders in the near future.
These words from Moore seem to be far more structured and precise, as compared to some previous comments made by the people associated by the game. EA were subject to some intense retaliation following those words and hence, it seems like Moore is trying
to calm things down and do the talking once the game is available in the market.
Both Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3 are going to be hitting stores before the end of the year and both games are already being hyped as being amongst the most anticipated games to be hitting shelves this year.
