EA claim Battlefield 3 will outsell Modern Warfare, Uncharted 3 Collector’s Edition detailed
With the Electronic Entertainment Expo just days away, Electronic Arts seem to be doing all they can to increase the already enormous hype surrounding their latest foray into the modern first person shooter genre, Battlefield 3.
Battlefield 3 will face direct competition from one of gaming’s biggest and most successful franchises, the Call of Duty series or to be more precise the Modern Warfare series. Developed by Infinity Ward, Modern Warfare became the most played first person
shooter of all time and backed it up with commercial success and critical acclaim.
However, EA thinks they can knock Modern Warfare off their perch, starting the process by outselling Modern Warfare come November. EA boasted that Battlefield 3 was better than its Infinity Ward counterpart in every way and that the balance of the market
was set to tip.
Jens Uwe Intat, Electronic Art Europe’s senior vice president had this to say when asked if Battlefield 3 could overtake MW3, "Certainly. The only question is when that day will be and for me, the sooner (it is) the better."
Jens went on to explain the reasons for his boast claiming that everything about the game was better than its competitor and that it was the perfect time for the two games to be going head to head.
"With Battlefield 3 we have a superior games engine and a top notch product. We are convinced that we will, in fact, have a better product than our key competitor in the space. We think this is the perfect year to gain back market share.”
What is interesting is that market analysts are predicting that Modern Warfare 3’s sales will depend on the critic’s score and ratings, and that if there is a five point difference between the two, than Battlefield 3 will have a solid chance of overtaking
the competition.
Only time will tell as both games are scheduled to be released around the hectic holiday period later this year.
Moving away from the world of First Person Shooters, the PlayStation Network is set to offer another exclusive title with Papo and Yo. The game was developed by an independent Canadian Studio, Minority, in partnership with Sony.
Vander Caballero, the head of the studio explained how their first project would draw players in emotionally when he stated, “Papo & Yo is our first chance to prove how emotionally connected a game can be.”
The story revolves around a Quico, a young boy and his best friend, Monster, who is, to put it simply, a monster. The game will involve puzzle solving as well as a constant battle to keep monster from turning into, once again to put it simply, a monster.
While the plot may sound confusing, the developers explained that the gameplay dynamics were simple yet challenging at the same time.
Papo and Yo is expected to hit the PlayStation Network next year.
