EA offer temporary fix for Battlefield 3 Back to Karkand DLC pack, working on patch to resolve issue
Electronic Arts, the game’s publisher, and DICE, the developer, are working on a patch to fix the issues that gamers are facing with the latest ‘Back to Karkand’ Downloadable Content Pack for their latest first-person title, Battlefield 3.
Players complained of problems with the server browser, which only showed maps and games that ran the base game. For those who are not familiar with what a server browser and base game are, the former is where Battlefield 3 players see a list of dedicated servers and can choose which one they wish to join. Base game, on the other hand, is the original Battlefield 3 maps without the DLC added.
So in essence gamers who have the ‘Back to Karkand’ DLC pack are having trouble finding matches with the add-on.
According to an update which was posted on the Battlefield 3 blog, “Going through the server browser right now will match you up with base game maps only. We are hard at work isolating and fixing this issue and will have an ETA on this later. Stay tuned for more information.”
At the same time the studio did give gamers a way to work around the issue, though it was more of a temporary fix rather than a full fledged solution, “Please use the Quick match filter settings to pick the Back to Karkand map and mode you want to play.”
At the same time one of the product manager at DICE, Tommy Rydling, responded directly to gamer queries regarding a fix to the VOIP issue which has been plaguing gamers when he explained that the although they have no concrete date for the fix, the studio is working and that gamers should get some good news fairly soon or as he put it:
“Hoping to get some clarity on this and being able to say something more concrete on the possible timings on the next PS3 (PlayStation 3) updates.”
Battlefield 3 is Electronic Arts’ fastest selling franchise in the company’s history and it is still doing well for itself in the sales charts around the world. The game was recently caught up in a fair bit of controversy after the Iranian government banned the game in the country and then followed through on the ban by making a number of arrests.
However, the publisher was not too concerned and was appreciative of the fact that pirated copies of the game were not being distributed in Iran and were being cracked down on.
The Back to Karkand DLC pack is also only one of many such content packs that DICE are planning to release over the coming few weeks after they confirmed earlier that Battlefield 3 was designed with DLCs in mind.
