After the Modern Warfare 3 versus Battlefield 3 rivalry that had both Activision and EA going at each other in an endless war of words, it seems that EA is the first to the punch in round 2.
Anyone who followed the happenings of the video game industry or had even the slightest of interests in either Battlefield 3 or Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will remember the japes and cheeky comments that the publisher of either game would pass back and forth with respect to their counterpart.
EA denied an Activision representative from entering their Battlefield 3 booth at last year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo. Activision later went on to state that they were more worried about making a game (Modern Warfare 3) than about building an engine, which was aimed at how EA was repeatedly showing off its FrostBite 2.0 engine.
The war of words continued even after the game was released before settling down recently. However, that particular can of worms seems to have been reopened by Kevin O’Leary, the global product manager at EA, who used Twitter to comment on Activision’s latest offering, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.
According to O’Leary, the Call of Duty series looks uninspired and in need of a vacation in order to freshen up, or as he put it in less than 140-characters: “Poor (Black Ops II) you look tired, you should take a year off and rest.”
Not only did those words hit out at the fact that Activision have been using the same engine to power their game since Modern Warfare 2, but also took a swing at the publisher’s policy of the Call of Duty series’ annual release cycle.
If anyone is wondering where the Tweet has disappeared off to now, well it turns out that it has been taken off Mr. O’Leary’s page and anyone who goes in search of it with only find the “Sorry, that page doesn’t exist!” message staring back at them.
EA is set to release Medal of Honor: Warfighter later on this year and seems determined to be the first to verbal punch this year as they look to ensure that this year belongs to them.
