Question:

EBay...is it even worth it anymore? eBayers..help me out please!?

I've been selling on ebay for awhile now, and I did make some money...but with the new changes and fees...I seem to be losing more money than making it.

I opened on of those free trial stores two days ago, and I'm not making any progress there either. Everything is SO slow. I have a laptop, HUGE stereo and tons of antiques (worth a good bit) that NO ONE is buying. There are all at reasonable prices...

I really wanted to try to make it but it's just too slow and annoying now...and it frustrates me so much!!

What do you think? eBay users....should I take a loss and just cancel or hang in there?

  1. eBay is a joke, there fees are too high, no one with a clue buys off of there, you get screwed with shipping charges as well, becuase the seller has to cover the fees with additional shipping, i would like to know the total sales on ebay over the last few years, it has to be declining rapidly.    everyone is going to free sites and its more profitable,, ebay transactions arent even guarenteed, so whats the point of paying fees..

  2. Most bidding happens in the last few minutes of a listing.  Don't panic just because people aren't flocking to your items.

Price may also be an issue. Let's say you have a laptop worth $2000, but you're selling it for $1500.  That's totally reasonable, right?  I'd buy it.

But if another seller has the same model, selling for $1400, guess whose laptop gets sold?

About the stereo, there's not much of a market for that particular category on eBay.  People prefer to buy those retail, because they have someplace to take it when it inevitably cacks out.

Antiques are a wild card.  You might have some rare items of interest, or they might just be old and undesirable.  I watched an auction for 10 or 12 glass tubes for an antique radio, which sold for over $1,000.  You just never know.

  3. You might want to read some of the Ebay guides out there to see if there are any tips that you can use to improve your business and get more sales/profits.

Failing that, you could try craigslists or other sites, or you could stick it out with Ebay for awhile longer.  But if you just keep losing money and it doesn't turn around, there's no reason to keep selling.  Donate your stuff to charity or something; at least then you'll get a tax writeoff.

  5. I loved Ebay at first, but I think you have a good point.  Lately it seems less fun, more expensive.  And it "feels" like fewer people are bidding and the final sales are lower than ever.  I think the first response guy is right, everyone has found new places to buy and sell.  It sure used to be fun.  Good luck!
