ECB Development Women’s XI defeat http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ireland-c751 by 7 wickets
ECB Development Women’s XI finished the championship with an impressive seven wickets victory over Ireland Women at New Williamfield No.1 Oval, Stirling on Thursday, on the 12th of August.
It was a comprehensive performance by the ECB Development Women XI with a disciplined bowling performance, an athletic show of fielding and an excellent batting performance. ECB Development XI’s bowling armoury, led by Alex Hartley and well complimented by Alice MacLeod and Lucy Maxwell, bundled the Ireland batting line-up for a below par 105 in the 45th over. In reply, the ECB Women, despite two ducks, were taken home by Alice MacLeod’s unbeaten 42 followed by Fran http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Wilson-c98046’s 35 off 55 balls.
The Irish batsmen, who performed brilliantly in the earlier matches, looked out of flair in this match as the side kept on losing wickets at regular intervals. Laura Delany was the leading run scorer with a patient 36 off 110 balls, followed by Eimear http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Richardson-c85395’s 13 and Emma Beamish’s 12. The remaining eight Irish batsmen were sent back to the pavilion without entering the double figures including two ducks – Jill Whelan and wicket-keeper Mary Waldron going back without scoring. Alex Hartley took three wickets while MacLeod and Maxwell shared 2 each.
Irish skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Heather-Whelan-c62138, after winning the toss decided to bat first. The start of the Irish innings was not that bad, but the end was tragic to say the least. The first three wickets earned Ireland 67 runs while the last eight squandered their wickets for only 38 runs.
The opening pair of Eimear Richardson and Laura Delany posted 23 runs for the opening stand. On the fifth ball of the sixth over, Deanna http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Cooper-c51561 earned the first success for ECB Development Women’s XI by trapping Eimear Richardson leg before. Richardson scored 13 runs from 21 balls hitting a boundary as well in her 20 minutes stay.
Eimear Richardson’s departure took Emma Beamish to the crease to join Laura Delany. Another 23 runs partnership was recorded between the two partners for the second wicket stand. Beamish departed in the 21st over, spooning an easy catch to Fran Wilson on a remarkable delivery off Kathryn Doherty, leaving Ireland at 56 for 2 on the board. Beamish scored 12 runs after facing 45 balls.
After Beamish’s dismissal, Kim Garth came to the crease to join Richardson’s opening partner Laura Delany for the third wicket partnership. The duo could post only 11 runs to the team’s total for the third wicket partnership. That became 67 for 3 when Kim Garth squandered her wicket while taking a needless run. She was beaten on MacLeod’s throw after scoring 5 runs off 12 deliveries. After Beamish’s dismissal, no Irish batsman could face the ECB Development Women’s XI’s attack who kept on losing wickets at regular intervals.
Macleod took two wickets in the 27th over and pushes Scott-Hayward and Jill Whelan back to the pavilion. Scott-Hayward scored five runs from as many balls and was caught by Alice MacLeod off her own ball while Jill Whelan, after struggling for three balls, was bowled by MacLeod, leaving the side reeling at 72 for 5. The last five wickets could add only 18 runs to the scorecard as the entire team was rolled over for 105 in the 45th over. The meagre Irish total of 105 contained 16 runs coming from extras.
The run chase of the ECB Development Women’s XI started with a ball duck of Georgia Adams. Alice MacLeod and Fran Wilson set the side on the winning track by sharing a half-century second wicket stand. However a pair of wickets at 58 once again shook the ECB Development XI, but the threat was passed away by an unbroken partnership of 47 runs between MacLeod and Kathryn Doherty as the pair took the side home on the first ball of 27th over with seven wickets still intact.
