ECB awards Chris Tremlett with an incremental contract
England fast bowler Chris Tremlett gets a boost as he has been awarded an incremental contract for the remainder of the 2011 season by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Surrey-c851 paceman finally gets to shine after his stunning performance in England’s Ashes win in Australia in 2010-11.
“The selectors are delighted with the contribution Chris has made in both forms of the game this winter,” Geoff Miller, the ECB national selector announced on Tuesday evening.
Even though the 29-year-old lost out a place in the final 15-man squad for England’s World Cup campaign, he was the key performer in England’s bid to regain the Ashes against Australia. He played the starring role in the last three Tests that took place
at Perth, Melbourne and Sydney.
Tremlett raked in a total of 17 wickets in the final three Test matches at an average of 23.35. He joined the squad when speedster Stuart Broad was ruled out of the series after the first Ashes Test due to an abdominal strain.
“His return of 17 wickets from three Test matches in Australia was an outstanding effort,” Miller stated saying that he should be very proud of his achievement.
Tremlett reached this mark when he took his chance brilliantly in the absence of Broad. He helped his team win the Ashes series 3-1 for the first time in 24 years in the land down under.
The ECB usually awards central contracts at the year-end or annually when the domestic season ends, however players who are spending more time in the national squad, can earn contract through this setup.
The incremental contracts are awarded to players on “point basis” whereby a player needs to reach a minimum of 20 points to be considered for the contract.
The points system is made for the non-contracted players, where players are awarded five points for a Test appearance and two for appearing in a One Day International.
Tremlett will always go down in the history as the one who took the series-winning wicket of the Australian tail-ender, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Michael-Beer-c1949 at Sydney.
His domestic cricket director, Chris Adam was pleased with the award saying that he looked a “class act in an England shirt.”
Tremlett is currently playing in the seven-match ODI series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 in which his side has suffered three straight losses.
