The ECB chairman in his personal capacity, made no attempt to convince the former left-handed batsman to revert his decision.
On Wednesday, Strauss in a press conference at Lord’s resigned from his three-and-a-half-year long Test captaincy.
“After much thought over the last few weeks, I have decided to step down as England Test captain and announce my retirement from all forms of cricket,” said Strauss, who led England in 50 matches, winning 24, was England's fourth most successful skipper with 48% success rate.
Strauss won three Ashes series, including two as captain and put England back on the map of world cricket.
With a strike rate of 48.91, Strauss scored 21 centuries and 27 half-centuries in the 100 Tests that he played for England. His highest score is 177.
