I want to apply for a preschool job but it says an early childhood education endorsement is required. I graduate college with a asociate of science degree in early childhood education in Michigan. Would this qualify me for this preschool job or is it a seperate degree to get the endorsement? How do I get it? This is really important for me and my career. Thanks in advanced.

  1. Try the following website - lists educational requirements all states - www.nccic.org Another good site for teacher quals is NAEYC

  2. My guess is that they are looking for someone with what in my state is called Early Childhood Certification, which means a four year degree and teacher certification. However, every state is different. Why not call State Ed in Michigan and clarify?

  3. You are qualified for the job.  I think the words "degree" and "endorsement" are interchangeable here.  You have done the right thing, an ECE degree is a two year college degree.  I would call on Monday morning and ask the people who have placed the ad.  Don't be embarrassed to ask,  you definitely qualify.

  4. The endorsement would mean that you will need more education.  I am working on my master's in early childhood in Michigan.  There are about 5 classes that get you an endorsement in the program I am in, and then if you continue on, you get  a masters.  You could still get a preschool job without the endorsement, just have to look around for someone who is not looking specifically for the endorsement.   If you wanted to get the endorsement you would need a teaching certificate, which means you would need your bachelors degree, to get  the endorsement.  So the endorsement means more education and most likely if you had it a school district would hire you. Without it, you could look around for private preschools or preschools within child care centers.  Good luck.
