Question:

ECONOMICAL WEDDING RECEPTION LOCATION?

My sister is getting married next year in September and we've began our search for reception locations. We're looking for something nice, not too expensive (meaning avg. $3G) and for about 300-450 ppl. We're hoping for a place that offers packages that include tables, chairs, etc..(not included in the $3G of course). In one day we saw about 8 places that were too small or had an odor. We live 2 exits East of Downtown Houston, but don't expect the hall to necessarily be in our side of town. If anyone has an recommendation they would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  1. A civic center, park (most charge a fee under $50, but you probably can't have alcohol served), elk lodge, VA hall, church hall. You could do something unique like a library, theme park (isn't there's 6 flags there?)

  2. I'm not located anywhere near Houston, so I can't begin to give you specific names of sites, but is there like a college dining hall near there? We have one where I'm from, and it'll hold about 500 ppl easily. It's at the local college (The University of Findlay...a private university). I don't know what the price would be for something like that, but it may be worth for you to check into for that many people. Also, I'm not sure on their policies on alcohol if you're having it...you'd need to ask. I don't even know if there's a zoo in Houston, but I'm betting that there is. You might want to check there, too. A zoo in my area (Toledo, OH) offers hall rental for wedding receptions and stuff. And the way they do it, the guests don't have to actually pay to get into the zoo. You could also check out bigger hotels and motels too...

    **Edit**

Try this link. I found the weddingsinhouston website, and this link will compare what they have as far as reception sites with seating capacities up to 500 people or more:

Not sure what prices mean though...some of them say 25-50 (is that per hour, or does it mean 2500 to 5000?? Where I'm from they just say its 500 to rent vs. 425 or whatever.)

  3. for 350-450 you best find a park, or perhaps a rec center. Do you know anyone who has a nice farm?
