EDP Cascais Girls Pro added to 2013 ASP Women’s WCT schedule – Surfing news
Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) International has announced the addition of EDP Cascais Girls Pro to the 2013 ASP Women’s World Championship Tour (WCT) schedule.
The season originally comprised of seven events, with Vans US Open of Surfing to operate as the final stop of the season from July 22 – 28.
However, in the wake of the recent announcement made by the ASP International, the 2013 ASP WCT will now continue until the first week of October, with the elite ASP female surfers to have one final shot at the coveted ASP World Title at Cascais, Portugal.
The event is scheduled to run from October 3 -7.
“We’re excited to confirm the addition of Portugal to this year’s women’s WCT schedule,” Jessi Miley-Dyer, ASP Women’s World Tour Manager, said. “The ASP Top 17 were informed about the possibility of this addition at the start of the season and have been
well prepared for it. Portugal is a great country and Cascais have been big supporters of women’s surfing as a qualifying event in the past. We’re happy to bring the world’s best female surfers there this season.”
The news of an extended season would surely be applauded by both the surfers currently participating in the campaign for the coveted honours, as well as the fans of the sport as they now have the opportunity to watch their favourite female surfers in action
for a longer period.
Tyler Wright, current No.1 on the 2013 ASP Women’s WCT, expressed great delight over the confirmation of EDP Cascais Girls Pro as part of the current season.
The 19-year-old Australian added that they had heard about the possibility of a Portugal event getting added to the elite tour at the beginning of the year, though nothing was certain at that time.
17 of the best female surfers from across the globe are contending for what is undoubtedly the biggest and most desirable honour in female surfing, ASP World Title.
With five of the eights stops on the 2013 ASP Women’s WCT done and dusted, Wright leads the race for the World Title, courtesy of her exceptional performance and thus victories at the Roxy Pro Coast and recently concluded Colgate Plax Girls Pro.
Former ASP Women’s World Champion Carissa Moore from Hawaii is right on her heels, thanks to back-to-back victories at Drug Aware Margaret River Pro and Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach.
The female surfers will continue their campaign for the coveted World Title Roxy Pro, which is scheduled to run from June 10 – 14 in Biarritz, France.
