EDTV is a standard-def TV (480 Lines)

So

Can you play HDTV content on an EDTV? - yes, but the HD picture will be scaled down

Can Blu-ray play on both? Yes, but on EDTV the image is scaled down

There is no adapter you can buy to make an EDTV an HDTV.

These days, HDTVs are not that more expensive than EDTVS so nobody makes them any more. If someone trys to sell you an old one, skip it unless it is really cheap.
