I just filled out my FASFA app and it said my EFC is 8124, it gave me a link to follow but I cannot find what that number means to me, i.e. what will I be expected to pay? I am attending a Technical School hopefully full time and also working full time. Anyone got a clue what this means? TIA!

  1. EFC is your Expected Family Contribution.  That number is what the govt feels you (and possibly your family) can contribute financially to your education.

That number is used by your school to determine how much and what type(s) of aid you are eligible to receive.

For more information on financial aid visit:

  2. EFC: Expected Family Contribution.

you'll need $8124 from your side and the rest will be coverd from fafsa. try wokring part time and show your self poor for next year to get money for next year. good luck!

  3. EFC is a code the school will use to determine what kinds and how much fin aid you will get.  It is NOT the amount you will have to pay for your school.

The best way to determine how much your schooling is is to look at their tuition and fee rates as well as dorm and meal costs if you are doing that.  You will be eligible to borrow money in Unsubsidized Stafford loans with an EFC of this number.  The dollar amount varies depending on your grade level and your dependency status.  Call your school.  They will be able to give you more detail.
