Hi I need some help my 2000 ford mustangs "service engine soon light" is on, it fluctuates on idle ( only in drive) lost a lot of power, and eating a lot of gas. I feel vibration when I am driving, when idle say on a stop light the motor drops RPMs and gets them back up again sometimes its bad and sometimes it does not do it that often. I would like to know if it might be my EGR valve, or spark plugs ( but I changed them about a year ago) or the spark plugs wires? Or anything else you guys can think of. Thanks

  1. You need to at least retrieve the codes in your vehicle to see why it says that your check engine light is on my gues is that you will get a O2 sensor voltage low (lean condition) so the first place to go if you haven't already done so is to replace your fuel filter and air filter if it looks like it needs it fuel filters are often neglected and can cause bad idle and low power.  Also On your throttle valve or butterfly valve where the throttle cable opens to let the air into the engine inspect that see if there are alot of carbon build up if there is then take a tooth brush and clean it real well. Advance Or Autozone will check your codes for free but if it says O2 sensor value low get a fuel filter before buying an 02 sensor

  2. I would have a professional shop (not autozone) retrieve the code and actually diagnose the problem. It might be the dpfe.

  3. Take it to Auto Zone and ask them to extract the codes from the ECM.  They will do this for free.  These code will lead you in the right direction as to what is wrong with it.

  4. it might be a 02 sensor too, it will make your car use gas if it,s bad.

  5. you could have something as simple as a loose gas cap, go and get the codes pulled. that will eliminate so much of the guessing and frustration.
