EMERGENCY! Should we evacuate?

My mom accidently left the stove on for a really long time. Now the whole house smells like smoke. Did carbon monoxide get released? Should we evacuate?

let me get this straight......your house is full of smoke and fumes and you are taking the time to sit down at the computer and write a question out on a Internet forum ?

open the doors and windows and let the house air out. remove any pets that are in your home. DONT bother the police with this as another poster has suggested. this is not a police problem, don't waste their time. if you have health or safety concerns, call the fire department.

In your other question, you said that it was an electric stove.  If that is the case, there will NOT be carbon monoxide in the house.  Just open a few windows and turn on some fans.

At least open the doors or windows and within 5 minutes or so it'll be ok. Carbon monoxide is only released when something burns and apparently it's not too bad because you're on the computer.

Since it is an electric stove...no.  Gas would be a possible evacuation...situation.  You should try to remove the odors by opening windows and running the 'fan' on a H/C unit or a portable fan may be the best way to direct air out of the kitchen and house.  Evidently, there was NOT an actual fire...so the smell should diminish eventually.  Try some air freshener...i.e. Febreeze and let the house 'air' overnight if possible.

If your house does not smell better by morning, you may want to call your insurance agent and determine what courses of action to take regarding the smell and your furnishings/clothing/ etc...
