Question:

ENOUGH ALREADY. Finally a RACING question?

This is the result of the recent Kwacker "screamer" engine photos.

This pic ( and meny others ) were featured under a question about tech freaks ( like me ! ) and people could figure out the new engine. I know I could not!

This is for the die hard MotoGP fans really, or even the old school guys out there.

If in recent tests the new 08 Kwacker sounds like an early 990 or even an old F1 car, What have Kawasaki done to it?

Will this be the turn around the green mean have been looking for? Im sure Hopper is the man to do it, if anyone is.

Your thoughts?

  1. Hi Wiggysan. If I picked it all up right when i posted the screamer Question. And i got some great answers. I think that the screamer has a closer firing sequence. so not so much putt putt as pt pt pt pt . even on 4 cylinders. as the big bang fires near enough two at a time. all the rest will be exhaust note. as you keep pointing out the way things go back around. I remember everyone loving the Ducatti growl when it started. and I still remember the sound of a screaming Norton, with its rotary engine. and now we are getting exited over a 4 cylinder 4 stroke.  2 stroke has got to come back sometime. crazy old world.

  2. I'm terrible with engines and all type of technologies that stay either in bikes, or in cars.

So I guess, I'll just have to go with a stupid saying like: "I'm sure that Hopper will do whatever he has to, to prove the power of his bike"

  3. Well I have not seen this engine design yet...the picture you had attached did not make it through. so I can only assume being a former racer of vintage Kwacker's. I would have to say they are probably working with a big bang type motor or some other form of changing the firing order....or maybe pneumatic vavles. All my stuff is way old school 1977 KZ1000 superbike like the one Eddie piloted back in the day. Mine has some very trick for the day pieces on it that were to be destroyed by Kawasaki following the end season in 78. Needless to say I get lots of attention from the Japanese media whenever I am at the track. Let me know if you find out what the motor is...BTW...I used to race with Hopper at Willow Springs when he was about 12 years old...lol..... we all knew he was good then.

  4. Hi Mr Wiggsan. As far as i know it's a screamer with pneumatic valves.I think this will be a good year for Kawasaki and Hopper.

  5. The Original in-line 4 cylinder 990's were all screamers. A screamer has more power than a big bang, but the power is much less manageable. Jerry Burgess and Yamaha were the first to develop the big bang and Kawasaki were the last to jump on the bandwagon.

Now with the advent of 800's (less overall power) and the ever more sophisticated electronics calming things down. Outright power is back on the agenda.

This time round it seems Kwacker have taken the initiative. And I think everyone  else (in-line 4's ie yam) will be reverting to the screamer design in order to stay competitive.

I'm sure Hopper will be at the sharp end a lot of the time. Wether he'll be sharper than if he'd been on a Suzuki is questionable, but I look forward to finding out.

  6. Its all down to more revs more power' they have given the bike more even firing,  so you get the engine, act more like a two stroke, but to control the mass of power, it will be sorted with electronic management systems, it will be a development year for them, and you will find most of the, electronic side of development will filter through onto there road bikes,

  7. Morning Wiggyhon

Glad I'm not the only one with memory problems!

The pictures look pretty mad don't they - and if Neil and Wallyboy are right we could be seeing ( and hearing) even more of them this season - yippee

Looks like it might be an interesting year for many other reasons - even if stoner already looks like a foregone conclusion, I cannot wait!
