ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR MEXICO? any suggestions!?

i live in calif..i am driving toTJ MEX BY land ...from Tj we are taking the airport to tapachula chiapas but i dont have a passport because like i said i dont need one because i am not flying from us to mex but from tj to tapachula chiapas...now this is my question what does mexico require..just a picture ID? or birth certificate? both? pleasse help.

  1. Birth certificates and picture ids is all that is needed if entering Mexico and returning to the US by land.


  2. You are going to need your birth certificate and a gov't issued photo i.d. to cross the border to begin with...and then you can use that same photo i.d. to travel within Mexico. See site below to confirm that passports will not be needed for land travel until June1, 2009....and that right now birth certificates and photo i.D. are needed.

  3. Are you an US citizen?  You may want to check with the passport office in your area because it was my understanding that starting last June a passport was required to pass into Mexico and Canada even by land.  Or you can call the airline you aree flying in Mexico and ask them,  that way you for sure have the correct information.
