EPL: Blackburn Rovers owners to not make “hasty decision” concerning a manager
The former manager of Blackburn Rovers, Sam Allaryce was given his marching orders on Monday, the 14th of December. The club currently sit on the thirteenth spot in the Barclays Premier League table, after suffering a defeat to Bolton Wanderers
over the weekend.
The Rovers travelled to the Reebok stadium but could not claim a point against the Wanderers, even though El-Hadji Diouf managed to equalise on the 87th
minute. The on-loan player from Manchester United must have thought he gained his side a valuable point, but Stuart Holden broke Blackburn hearts by firing home in the 88th
minute.
Bolton’s Fabrice Muamba was the first player to find himself on the score sheet after tucking one in past the Blackburn goal keeper, Paul Robinson in the sixty fifth minute. Trotters’ squad member, Mark Davies was sent off in the encounter through a well
earned red card.
Blackburn now have twenty one points, one above Aston Villa and below Stoke City who are just ahead on goal difference. The Rovers will play West Ham United, a team wallowing in the relegation zone for their next fixture on Saturday, the 18th
of December.
The board members of the Lancashire team have announced that for the coming fixtures, Steve Kean will fill the spot left empty after Sam’s departure. Kean was the club’s first team coach and took on the job at Ewood park in August 2009. The Scotsman was
previously wanted by the club, Kilmarnock seven months prior to Kean’s current appointment at Blackburn. The former Scottish player served a brief spell at Celtic and moved onto Swansea. He soon represented the Portuguese club named Academica de Coimbra. He
has further established his name in the coaching field, by working for a number of clubs. Reading was the first team he worked at, followed by Fulham, where he helped Chris Coleman. Real Sociedad and Coventry City are the other two clubs in which he has coached
players. While in Coventry, he was offered a job at Stamford Bridge by the title defenders Chelsea, but chose to stay on at Coventry. After Coventry, he assumed his position as coach with the Rovers and now the club’s owners have made it clear that they have
faith in the Glaswegian’s abilities to take the club forward.
His title at the club is at the moment, ‘acting manager’, but the Venky’s group have stated “We don't want to make a hasty decision and we are in a good position to take our time because Steve is quite capable.” The chairwoman of the Venky’s group specified
the time period to being “a couple of months” as to when the next permanent manager would be employed at Ewood Park. The Indian company’s chairwoman, Anuradha Desai explained to the Lancashire evening telegraph saying, "Right now we are going to have a study
and put a lot of thought into who the next manager will be."
The Blackburn owners are the first Indian owners of an English Premier League club. The takeover of the East Lancashire club was completed in mid November of this year. The joint managing director of the poultry giants named Venkateshwara Rao previously
stated on the day of the takeover that “We are all truly honoured to be working with such an historic club and are committed to creating a long-term financial platform which the club can use to realise its obvious potential on and off the field.”
Blackburn Rovers have a rich history as a successful club after being established in 1875. The Rovers took part in the founding of the Football League but are more recognized for claiming the English Premier League title in 1995. Lifting the trophy in that
year made Blackburn the most recent club besides the well known ‘big four’ (Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool) to lay hands on the title. Bookmakers have tipped the former Newcastle manager, Chris Hughton as the favourite to be employed at
Ewood. Other names for the Blackburn job include former Ajax’s Martin Jol and Aston Villa ex Martin O’Neil.
