EPL Breaking News: Arsenal to make twenty million pound signing in January of Serb Neven Suotic
Arsenal is apparently reported to be tracking Serbian international defender Neven Suotic.
The twenty one year old, has been a target for Arsene Wenger since April. The North London based club and Wenger were hoping to land the signatures of the player before the World Cup kicked off however they have been riddled with minor glitches.
The defender showed superb class and determination during the tournament, in South Africa. His performance only added to his reputation of being the next Nemanja Vidic.
The defender is currently employed by Borussia Dortmund, in the German Bundesliga. He joined the German side in 2008 and has made around seventy eight appearances for the team so far.
The German outfit have been constantly warding off any and all suitors for the player and have insisted that no bid for the player will be considered under any circumstance. However this has not seemed to cause teams like Arsenal, Manchester City, Chelsea and Real Madrid loose any interest in the player as all four of those teams are currently looking to pursue the player and try to lure him to play for them.
Arsene Wenger had initially planned to lure the player to the Emirates for a fee rumored to be around the twelve million pound mark. However the German club has said that they won’t be listening to any offers below the twenty million pound mark, following the youngster’s brilliant performances in the World Cup, which was easily football’s biggest stage.
Despite having brought in two new faces to the Arsenal back line, Wenger is still looking to strengthen the team’s defensive options even further. He has also admitted to being a long term admirer of the young Serbian defender and has been rumored to have admitted, to want to make an all out effort to sign the player and bring him to the Emirates in January, after having failed to secure his services in the summer.
The Serbian who has started to grow fond of being called the 'New Vidic' is currently considered to be one of the best defenders in the German Bundesliga. Apart from the solid interest from Arsenal, teams in Germany are also rumored to be interested in landing the players signature on their paper. Teams like Bayern Munich and Schalke fancy their chances over the English teams, since they feel the player has grown accustomed to playing in Germany and would prefer to stay in the country should a bigger club make an offer for him.
Wenger has brought in Sebastian Squillaci and Laurent Koscielny to help partner Thomas Vermaelen at the back of the Arsenal line up, however the manager has admitted that he still needs to sign at least one or two more, quality defenders in order to have a complete back line. Wenger strongly believes that Sutoic is one of the players that he needs to fill the defensive void with. The player is still only twenty one years old and has youth on his side, which means he would a long term prospect for any club he signs a contract with.
If Arsenal finally manages to complete their defensive lineup according to what Wenger has planned, they might just have the players that are needed to help the team go on and acquire some much of the needed silverware. However Wenger will also be aware of the fact that, no matter how many defenders he signs, his current priority would be to sign a world class goal keeper to replace Manuel Almunia between goal posts and provide a sense of security to the team and the fans.
