EPL Breaking News: Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick to be out of action for three weeks
Manchester United loyal midfielder has been confirmed out of action for three weeks owing to his long standing Achilles injury. The player reportedly took an injection after informing manager Alex Ferguson that his problem has once again been aggravated and therefore now will be under medical care again.
The manager claimed that Carrick would be out of action three weeks at least but it could take him a month to recover. The midfielder was a substitute bench warmer in the Three Lions recent thrashing of both Bulgaria and Switzerland for the Euro 2012 qualifiers. Carrick has also not featured in a Red Shirt since Manchester United’s historic 3-1 victory over Chelsea in the Community Shield match at Wembley Stadium last month.
The manager has confirmed that Carrick had a problem with his Achilles muscles. The midfielder has been bothered by the problem for a couple of weeks now after which he was sent by the club to see a specialist. The specialist gave Carrick an injection and the manager hoped for things to settle down in due time, but unfortunately they didn’t.
"We have been considering what we should do about it. The best thing is to get it treated and out of the road now because everyone in the squad is fit", informed manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
Carrick’s injury has come at a crucial time as he would not be available for the Champions league game with Rangers as well as the clash with Liverpool in the upcoming weekend. There was good news at the United camp however as English captain Rio Ferdinand is available for selection for the first time this season.
Ferdinand missed this summer’s World Cup owing to an injury suffered at the English camp. The defender has however made a quick come back from the injury and has already played for the reserves against Stockport.
The manager claimed that it was solely Ferdinand’s own decision to feature in the reserves as Ferguson didn’t think it was necessary. The manager claimed that Ferdinand’s training is coming out well and he is ready to feature in the first team. The manager was delighted to have the central defender back in the ranks, as United go into a tough week.
Recovering former Porto midfielder Anderson, however, is unlikely to be fit in time for the fixtures, after the player picked up a knock in the reserves game. The manager has confirmed that it’s a small knock and nothing alarming. Ferguson added that that he expected the player to make a speedy recovery and be available for the matches in no time.
United would be playing Glasgow Rangers in their UEFA Champions league bout. It is an interesting tie as Ferguson’s close friend and former assistant coach Walter Smith now manages the Scottish side. United would be looking to feed from the energy of the home crowd and take an early advantage to progress through the group stages.
