EPL Breaking News: Owen Hargreaves will return to Manchester United in two weeks time - Sir Alex Ferguson
Manchester United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that the midfielder Owen Hargreaves would return to the club “in a fortnight”.
Owen had to miss the Red Devils' pre-season as he returned to USA for more rehab program on his troubled knees. Hargreaves once again went to see Dr. Richard Steadman to put an end to his long standing tendinitis injury, which has kept the former Bayern
Munich star out of football for nearly 2 years.
Hargreaves did manage to make a short comeback last season, where he played one half of a reserves game and one minute of a Premier League game against Sunderland. Many had thought that the midfielder would also get a call up from Fabio Capello, but he yet
again had problems with his knees.
Critics expect this to be Hargreaves’s last chance to get fit as he risks a premature end to his glorious career. The manager confirmed that he expects the midfielder to be back with Manchester United within the next two weeks.
"He seems to be making decent progress now. But if he comes back in two weeks when is he going to be fit to play for Manchester United? That is still to be found out", said the Scotsman.
The United boss did name the injured 29 year old for his 25 men Premier League squad but completely excluded him from UEFA Champions’ League group phase team. This signals that Ferguson is in reality not expecting the England International to be back by
December.
The manager revealed that it was important for him to include Hargreaves into the domestic squad, as that cannot be changed for the next six months. For Europe, however, things can be changed should the player make a comeback by January, when his name can
be added if he returns with form and fitness.
Manchester United were held to a dramatic 3-3 draw at Goodison Park. The Red Devils were comfortably ahead 3-1 till the 90th minute mark but in injury time, David Moyes’ men managed two goals to frustrate the 18 time Champions.
United lost nothing but two crucial points in that encounter and would now be looking to bounce back from such a result. They would next be travelling to Turkey to face the Turkish Champions, Bursapor on Tuesday in their 5th match of the UEFA Champions League
season.
