EPL Breaking News: Squillaci confirms his transfer to Arsenal
The French defender, Sebastien Squillaci has confirmed that his three year contract with Arsenal is now official after his medical examination with the Gunners was cleared.
The Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger has also collaborated on that saying he expects great things from the 30-year-old who has just managed it to North London from the Spanish club Sevilla.
Wenger, who has been managing the Gunners since 1996, stated that they needed a good experienced centre back and now their wish is granted. “We needed a centre back of quality and experience and at the right price, he was all of that”. He told the media.
The manager also confirmed that Squillaci will be playing in the English Premier League fixtures; however, he won’t feature in the match against Blackburn Rovers as apparently he needs some time to adjust at his new club.
The French centre back spent a major part of his career playing for Monaco but it was Lyon from where his fame exploded. He stayed in the French club for two years and after that left them in 2008 to join Sevilla. For Lyon, he had 62 appearances in which he scored 3 times while for Sevilla; he just acquired a lone goal in 49 caps.
Wenger informed that although the transfer is at hand but there are still some minor adjustments that have to be taken care of. Well, he certainly won’t be causing a fiasco like the one Mikel John Obi caused for Manchester United and Chelsea. Earlier in the summers, Wenger had claimed that he would be signing in a couple of defenders as they really needed them, being thrashed around because of that last season.
Arsenal happen to have been quite inconsistent in their defense department as players such as Sol Campbell, William Gallas, Philippe Senderos and Mikael Silvestre have left the club on different occasions.
Injuries also have left them with much to worry about. Currently, Johan Djourou is injured who can actually play in pretty much all defensive positions. Money is no issue for Wenger, as the transfer window is about to end on 31st August and the Frenchman has still about 30 million pounds which he can spend at whatever he pleases.
