EPL First Half Match Report - Merseyside Derby: Liverpool vs. Everton, 1-0
Starting XI for Liverpool: Reina, Kelly, Skrtel, Agger, Johnson, Meireles, Spearing, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lucas-c22528, Kuyt, Torres, and Maxi
Subs: Gulacsi, Aurelio, Cole, Pacheco, Kyrgiakos, Babel, Shelvey
Starting XI for Everton: Howard, Neville, Heitinga, Distin, Baines, Coleman, Fellaini, Arteta, Osman, Beckford, and Anichebe
Subs: Mucha, Hibbert, Bilyaletdinov, Vaughan, Gueye, Rodwell, Baxter
It was Kenny Dalglish’s first home fixture for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Christian-Poulsen-c9114 and
Milan Jovanovic.
He was exuberant in the first half as a goal from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Raul-c30652 Merieles stood between the two sides at the interval. It was unfortunate for Everton to score like the way did. Liverpool forward Kuyt managed two shots in quick succession but was
denied from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Tim-Howard-c35095. The ball fell for Meireles at the edge of the box and the player managed impressive shot inside the roof of the net.
Liverpool were making quality plays and show great team united which certainly showed they were up for another one. In the second minute, Everton headed the corner away but it was played back into Torres at the edge of the box. He struck
a left-foot volley high over the bar. Had he some more space and his stronger foot trouble would have been a certain call for the Blues. For the whole 45 minutes Torres was threatening to score a goal.
The Spaniard hit the post in the 17th minute to the disappointment of fans. The 26-year-old went on a magnificent run inside from the right, beat two men but hit his left-footed shot came up against the woodwork.
The follow up from Kuyt was deflected wide for a corner.
On the 21st minute, Fellaini nodded down into the danger area and Beckford was inches away from touching it in. It was at this point that Everton missed the services of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Tim-Cahill-c35085 who would’ve scored without a doubt
from this range.
In the closing minutes of the game, Arteta released Anichebe down the left, but the striker is not the most confident on the ball so he was dragged wide. His cross was decent, but by the time Fellaini headed it down there were plenty of
Liverpool players to knock it out of danger.
Liverpool deservingly had the lead in the first half, in fact should’ve been 2-0 up. It was unfortunate for Torres to hit the framework. Everton seem lifeless without Tim Cahill and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Steven-Pienaar-c34208 and need to hold more possession. The
next goal would be important as it would be the decider for this derby encounter.
