EPL Full Time Report: Liverpool versus Aston Villa – 3-0 (Part 3)
The 76th minute saw Liverpool make their substitution as Rodriguez was replaced by Aurelio. Time had finally arrived for the Brazilian to prove that Liverpool had made the right decision by calling him back in the squad.
Liverpool were making smart moves in the 78th minute as they constantly tried to find a gap in the Aston Villa box but alas after what seemed like ever the ball was lost.
Soon after that however, N’Gog played a good ball that was cleared off for a corner by Warnock. It seemed that finally Villa defenders were taking no nonsense.
In the 79th minute, Kuyt was replaced by Joe Cole. With the Dutchman’s job done, it was the former Chelsea player Cole to shine and prove his worth to the Scouse.
10 minutes left on the clock and the former legend from Arsenal Pires was enthusiastic in trying to find a goal. His presence was certainly being felt in the field.
In the 83rd minute, Kyrgiakos was replaced by Martin Kelly. The Greek player seemed to be troubled by a muscle in his thigh and therefore it was decided that the youngster should be given a chance.
Soon after that Meirles took a fine effort at goal but Friedel was alive to produce a good save.
During the 85th minute, Cole and Johnson were spectacular on the right midfield after which Johnson played a fine ball along the line Babel. He then caught fire and cut out three defenders. He tried to pull a 360 when he was eventually tackled
to his feet and a free kick was handed which came of no use.
In the 88th minute, Villa created pressure and Downing came up with the ball on the right but there were too many defenders to let the ball go through easily and soon Liverpool were on the attack. The ball was played from the midfield to the centre
where N’Gog showed good understanding with Johnson.
After arriving in the box, Johnson back heeled passed well to N’Gog who was unaware and the ball fell out.
Carew got a chance to score but Skrtel was marking him as he kicked the ball out.
Two minutes of injury time was added into the match which saw most of the ball either in the midfield or in front of the Aston Villa box.
Apart from a few Villa players, others seemed down. There was lack of a charismatic personality on field and that was also helping them in their seemingly humiliating defeat.
Soon after a few more plays, the referee signalled for the play to end and with it Reina became the fastest Liverpool player to achieve his 100th clean sheet.
Now, Liverpool are at the 8th position in the English Premier League with 22 points from 16 matches and an acquired goal difference of 1.
Aston Villa are at the 16th position from 16 matches while scoring 17 points and a goal difference of -10. They are now just 2 points off from the relegation zone.
