EPL Full time report: Sunderland vs. Newcastle United (1-1)
The word “derby” lived up to its expectations as the encounter between Sunderland and Newcastle United was held to a 1-1 draw, thanks to one of the most bizarre goals from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Asamoah-Gyan-c6791.
Newcastle seemed all set to secure a league double over rivals Sunderland, when a Kevin Nolan exquisite back heel finish in the 57th minute set tone for the match. However, those dreams were shattered when Ghanaian striker Gyan unintentionally
deflected the ball past the goal line. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Phil-Bardsley-c29900 took an audacious shot on goal but was kept out by Newcastle goal keeper Harper. On the rebound, the ball hit Gyan and went over the goal line to snatch two points away from Newcastle as the match ended
in a 1-1 draw.
The draw means that Newcastle would stay at the ninth spot, just 5 behind Sunderland, who still have a game to play. Both teams went out to attack in numbers, with Sunderland willing to avenge their 5-1 defeat to Tooners. Both teams had many opportunities
to kill off the game, but were denied by some brilliant saves on both ends. It can be argued that Newcastle played better football, despite being without Andy Carroll. They dominated the proceedings with ease at the fortress of Sunderland that is the Stadium
of Light. Sunderland clearly missed the physical presence of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Danny-Welbeck-c10233, lucky to have grabbed the equalizer in the final minutes of the game.
The first half was controlled by Newcastle United, with Shola Ameobi spilling away two brilliant long balls from Joey Barton. Newcastle should’ve gone 2 goals up in the first half but score line remained the same with those plunders.
In the second half, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Steed-Malbranque-c33957 found him on the run. The player cut in and launched a good shot, only to be denied the goal by some exciting footwork from the goal keeper. Newcastle, however, found themselves in lead
during the 57th minute. Barton managed a quality corner from the right and found Ameobi on the far post. Ameobi kept his head down and the ball fell to Nolan who then finished it off with a back heel.
Sunderland would be delighted to have drawn the match, even if it was a fluke from Gyan. Hence manager Steve Bruce was saved from humiliation of losing to local rivals twice in one year. Newcastle, on the other hand, would be disappointed by the way match
ended. Nothing could’ve been done about that goal and they definitely deserved to win this encounter.
