EPL Injury News Update: Steven Gerrard & Victor Moses out of action
Liverpool FC have been boosted by the return of Steven Gerrard, who was sidelined due to a hamstring injury.
It is reported that captain fantastic will resume training with the first team from Monday. Earlier, it was feared that the English star would be out of action for at least 3 weeks.
Liverpool missed his presence in midfield, during their home win against West Ham United, and the 2-1 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane.
Steven suffered the injury on international duty, when the Three-Lions’ lost 2-1 to France in a friendly match in November.
The 30-year-old is likely to miss the Reds’ next English Premier League game against Aston Villa on Monday, but could make a return when Liverpool travel to St. James’ Park on 11th December.
Peter Brukner, who is the head of sports medicine at Liverpool, informed about the player’s progress.
He said, “Steven's going well. He's back running, though not back in training. He's certainly looking good to play the Newcastle game, which has been our target all along. We're hoping he'll be back in training at the start of
next week. Everything's gone to plan."
Meanwhile, Wigan Athletic’s Victor Moses has dislocated his shoulder and he could be out of action for up to 6 weeks. The midfielder was hurt during Wigan’s 2-0 defeat in the quarterfinal of the Carling Cup at the Emirates Stadium
on Tuesday.
His absence will be a big blow to manager Roberto Martinez, whose team is involved in a relegation battle with fellow strugglers West Ham United and Wolverhampton Wanderers. The Latics are currently 18th in the Premier
League, just 2 points above 20th placed West Ham.
The manager said, “Victor fell very awkwardly and straightaway you could see that he had dislocated his shoulder. We sent him straight to hospital, and we'll continue to assess him. Unfortunately we are looking at anything between
four to six weeks, and that's a shame because he looked very sharp. We know how much we're going to miss Victor for the next few weeks. Injuries and suspensions are a reality of the game, and we have to adapt to it as well as we can."
Moses is a versatile midfielder, but can also play on wide areas of the pitch as a winger. The Nigerian born footballer, who has an England U-21 cap to his name, has made 8 appearances for Wigan this season.
