EPL: Joey Barton ready for England squad, De Ridder wants more opportunities at Wigan
The former Birmingham City winger expects to hold talks with Wigan’s manager, Martinez, in the near future to discuss his future at the club. The winger is unsettled at Wigan, owing to lack of opportunities, and aims to clear out the situation. The 26 year old claimed that he would want to move from the club if he doesn’t get more starting team opportunities.
The winger claims that he would love to stay with Wigan, only if he gets to play more regularly. De Ridder added that it is what every player wants, and seems to be his aim at the moment. Daniel insisted that he would have a talk with Roberto Martinez, and whatever may be the result of the talks, it would at least end the uncertainty for him and make things more clear. Ridder stated that the talks will ensure the right decision is made, and admitted that a career for a footballer is too short to be wasted on the side lines.
"If I'm not going to be playing then I hope that the manager will be honest about it, and I think that he will be", claimed the Winger. Martinez was only able to make 10 appearances for Birmingham City, and didn’t score. This led to City selling the player, and he again failed to make an impact at Wigan. The winger has made 18 appearances for the squad, and is yet to find the net. Daniel therefore was forced to watch his club from the sidelines, while other players, like Valencia, impressed. Valencia is now a Manchester United player, owing to his impressive string of performances with Wigan.
In other news, Joey Barton, who was the captain for Newcastle United when they played Carlisle United on Saturday, was happy with his team performance. Newcastle won 3-0, and the player stated that he aims to do his best for his club, and that is his sole aim. The over confident midfielder stated that he kept a close eye on the World Cup performances of English players, and claimed that he was as good as anybody in the UK when he plays in his top form. The 27-year old stated that he says it with confidence, and proves it every time he plays on his best form. Barton said that every midfielder should do his best to prove that they are not to be taken lightly. Joey insisted that every player should aim to break into the English national side, and fancy the players playing in it. Joey Barton stated that his goal was to break into the English squad, and if he does make it there, it would mean that he was doing extremely well at club level.
He however remained steadfast that he aims to do well for his club. Barton had an injury plagued season when his side won the Coca Cola Championship last season, but aims to make a name for himself this time around, when Newcastle plays in the Premier League. Barton claimed that he is an all round footballer, and is a better player than what he was when he signed with his club. Joey blamed the injuries which contained his true ability, and now has the chance to showcase his true talent. The 27-year old insisted that if he is able to maintain his fitness for longer periods of time, he would easily break into the international squad.
Barton is a former Manchester City player, and was an impressive central midfielder. Joey made 130 appearances for City, scoring 15 goals in the process. Joey signed with Newcastle United in 2007, but has only been able to make 47 appearances in three years. The midfielder only managed to score three times. Barton, like other England internationals, is hopeful of making it into England’s squad, following the failure of the so-called “Golden Generation” of England.
