EPL: Liverpool vs. Chelsea, Team News Update
Malouda Unavailable for the Liverpool Clash
Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti confirmed in a recent press conference that winger Florent Malouda would not be accompanying the rest of the squad to their trip to Anfield on Sunday. The Blues take on Liverpool over the weekend and will be
preparing for a tough challenge.
The Blues are five points clear at the top of the English Premier League and have already secured qualification for the knock out stages of the Champions League. The confirmation for their pass to Round of 16 came with a 4-1 win over Spartak
Moscow at Stamford Bridge.
However, Ancelotti’s side will have to do without the influential French winger FLorent Malouda against Liverpool this upcoming weekend. The 30-year-old France international has been one of the Blues’ best players this season and is currently
the top scorer for the club with an impressive seven goals.
Ancelotti confirmed that he would without one of his favorite players against Roy Hodgson’s Liverpool, he told reporters,“Malouda has a twist on his ankle, not a big problem but he is not able to play against Liverpool, the week
after yes.”
Ancelotti will be looking forward to the return of another favorite, Frank Lampard. The star midfielder had been sidelined because of surgery but he seems to have recovered and could return to action against Liverpool. Ancelotti said, “We
hope Frank can play.”
Kuyt Could Feature Against the Blues
Liverpool striker Dirk Kuyt revealed that he may be fit enough to face Chelsea when they visit Anfield on Sunday. The Dutch international had been sidelined for over three weeks because of an injury he sustained while on international
duty with Holland.
The 30-year-old forward was hopeful that he would be fit in time for the clash with rivals Chelsea, he told reporters,
“I have worked really hard with the medical team. I am quite happy with them because I have recovered quickly. I have trained really hard and am ready to start team training tomorrow.”
Kuyt was asked about the Chelsea game specifically and the striker said, “It depends on how the next couple of days go. Hopefully the team training will be okay and at the end of the day it will be up to the manager.”
Kuyt also spoke about manager Roy Hodgson saying that the Liverpool boss had his support, despite the Reds having a shaky start to the season. He added, “We could all see last year how good a job the manager did
at Fulham. We are working really hard to reach the same thing as he did at Fulham.”
