Ferguson disagrees with Wenger on Old Trafford pitch
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson hit back at Arsene Wenger’s claims that the pitch at Old Trafford was the main cause for Arsenal’s 1-0 defeat to United. Ferguson’s side emerged victors in the battle for the top place in the League when they beat
Arsenal over the weekend.
Arsene Wenger was not too pleased with the pitch and after the match spoke to reporters, claiming that one of the reasons for a “technically very average” match was the pitch at Old Trafford being too “bouncy and slippery.”
The Arsenal boss said in a statement about the pitch after the match, “The pitch was so poor in my opinion and the game suffered a lot from it.” Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere agreed with his manager, “The pitch was shocking. [United] wanted to stop us
playing!”
Ferguson did not agree with Wenger’s comments, he said, “I don't think the pitch had anything to do with it. We were just the better team. The pitch was good, fine. I've no problem with the pitch at all and it was a surprise to everyone that this was mentioned.”
Manchester United linked with Valencia’s Joaquin
Sir Alex Ferguson’s side are reportedly looking to sign the Spanish winger Joaquin this summer. The 29-year-old Valencia player has been linked with Manchester United for a while now and it seems like the player will finally move to Old Trafford over the
summer.
Ferguson admitted to being an admirer of the winger who possesses great pace and skill. The United manager tried his best to get the Valencia winger to come to England last year. However, a deal could not be agreed upon between the two clubs and Ferguson
could not land the player.
According to reports, the Scot has renewed his interest in the player and will try to acquire him in the upcoming January transfer window. The move makes sense, considering the fact that United’s winger Antonio Valencia is injured.
Valencia is out with a broken leg and Ferguson feels it necessary now to replace the player and in doing so, relieve some of the pressure off Nani. Reports suggest that Manchester United are preparing a €6.5 million deal for the Spanish player.
