EPL News- 1st Oct 2010: West Ham United, Wigan Athletic, Wolverhampton Wanderers
WEST HAM UNITED
The West Ham United players, Scott Parker, Carlton Cole and Mark Noble have officially signed up New Ham Council to run the Olympic Stadium after the 2012 Olympics. Earlier, a committee was formed by these players along with New Ham Young Mayor, Kaycee De
Belen and pupils from Cleves Primary School to take over the Stadium in a truly remarkable proposal.
The committee, in its proposal, suggested that the stadium be converted into a venue for sports, education and culture. Now, the 60,000-seater stadium would be used to host football matches along with athletic and community occasions, concerts and other
sporting activities. The bid also received a warm welcome from the Chairman of UK Athletics, Lord Sebastian Coe.
"I've been around the stadium and it is fantastic. It is going to be a superb venue for the Olympic Games and one we can all be proud of. But it also offers great potential after 2012, not just for West Ham and sports in general but also for the local community.
I really hope we get it", stated Parker, West Ham United’s star Midfielder.
WIGAN ATHLETIC
Wigan’s manager, Roberto Martinez is extremely delighted to hear the news about the striker, Franco Di Santo. Earlier, it was feared that the player may have damaged his ankle ligaments that could have led him into missing several months of action.
Di Santo was seen in a lot of pain owing to the challenge made by Birmingham City’s player, Craig Gardner. He underwent a scan following the match which has delivered good news to the manager, as it has shown no long term damage to the ankle. So, Di Santo
may well be in action against Wolves this weekend.
WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS
Wolverhampton’s midfielder, Johnny Gorman has been shortlisted for Daily Telegraph School Sports Matters Awards 2010. The 17-year-old attends the Repton School and has already made his International debut while playing against Slovenia in the Euro 2012 qualifier.
Gorman has also been nominated for the Male Pupil of the year and award ceremonies for both the accolades are expected to be held at Wembley on 3rd of next month. Johnny is also expected to be part of the Northern Ireland’s Euro Qualifier double
header against Italy on 8th Oct 2010 while Faroes Islands on 12th Oct 2010.
