EPL News: 23-09-2010 - Fulham, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United
Fulham
Fulham manager, Mark Hughes, trusts his squad to turn around their disappointing away form and believes that he is on the right track to turn things around with the club. Fulham have been disappointing in their away fixtures as the side hasn’t managed to
win even a single premier league away fixture for more than 365 days now.
This season, Fulham are in an impressive form away from Craven Cottage as the side is undefeated following draws with Bolton Wanderers, Blackpool and Blackburn Rovers. The former Manchester City manager insisted that over the past years, Fulham have struggled
on the road and have lost against Blackburn every time they travelled to Ewood Park.
Hughes stated that this season he has earned a draw there and that has to be a good omen for the club. Mark said that Bolton, Blackpool and Blackburn are difficult sides to play against, especially away from home, but the squad has shown some good signs,
managing to play up to the mark.
A few changes in tactics here there and it would only be a matter of time before Fulham end their one year away win drought in the premier league.
Liverpool
Liverpool’s managing director, Christian Purslow, has revealed that the Merseyside club never wanted to sell off Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres and is actually happy to keep those superstars at Anfield. Both of these star players were linked heavily
for a move away from Merseyside this summer but chose to stay put with their current employers.
However, new reports have surfaced claiming that should Liverpool fail to pay off their debts by 1st October 2010, they may well have to sell off these stars to ease the debt burden. Yet the managing director stated that he never wanted to sell
off the players and was happy to hang on to their services.
"I say again, every single penny we generate from selling footballers goes back into buying footballers. I wouldn't have it any other way and I wouldn't have taken the job to oversee selling footballers to pay bank’s or owner’s money. We never have in my
time here and we never will as long as I am here. Please, I ask our fans to have no doubt whatsoever”, claimed the club MD.
Manchester City
Manchester City’s boss, Roberto Mancini has asked for one more month from the City fans to bring out the true quality in the side. City have added 7 top quality player’s this season which has changed the overall look of the side in the matter of 2 years.
Having spent 1 billion pounds so far, many tip City to perhaps clinch the premier league trophy and were the third favorites of lifting the coveted trophy. However, Mancini’s plans have been hampered by constant injury issues and the manager asks for a little
more patience on behalf of City faithful.
Mancini has already named the next International break to be the time when City gets to its full form, as the manager needs the time to work with all the player’s individually, which has not happened since the season began.
Manchester United
Manchester United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, was confident that it would be the youngsters who ultimately benefit from playing in the Carling Cup. The manager stated that the league Cup competition has been favorable for the Red Devils as it has enabled
him to keep a check on the progress of all the players.
Ferguson stated that winning the tournament for the past two years has allowed him to efficiently rotate the squad and has given the younger lot the opportunity to play and showcase their talent. The manager added that even losing against sides like Coventry
and Southend has been a good learning ground for players, even if winning is the only result favorable for Manchester United.
