Newcastle United
Magpies’ manager, Chris Hughton, is extremely pleased with the team’s overall spirit, following the side’s shock 4-3 victory at Stamford Bridge in the Carling Cup. Newcastle scored three goals in quick successions to take the score to 3-1. But, the hosts
sought a comeback and two strikes from Nikolas Anelka found Chelsea equalize.
Yet the magpies managed to find the winning goal with just two minutes remaining on the clock. "We have a support that, providing they see a team that's having a real go, they will never be critical and at the moment, they are seeing that. Although, the
performance wasn't one of our better ones against Blackpool - we certainly had enough chances - it was still a real disappointment. But we couldn't have bounced back in any better way. To go to Everton - after the form they showed against Manchester United
to come back from two goals down and get a point - and win spoke volumes for our team", claimed the Newcastle United manager.
Stoke City
Stoke City’s assistant manager, Dave Kemp, has ruled out any ill-intentions in Andy Wilkinson’s “dirty” tackle to Moussa Dembele, despite agreeing that the challenge was unnecessary. Stoke had already wrapped up the match 2-0 at the Britannia Stadium, yet
Wilkinson was booked for the late tackle in the dying moments of the match.
Fulham defender was seen taken off the pitch on a stretcher following the collision. The assistant coach stated that even if the tackle was unwanted, yet there were no intentions to harm the Fulham player and Wilkinson had the backing of the manager. Kemp
explained that it was no doubt a rash and absolutely unneeded tackle and has already had a word with the defender.
Dave agreed that there was no need for such a rash challenge and hoped that the victim wasn’t hurt too bad. Kemp labeled the reason behind the rash challenge as over enthusiasm rather than malice.
Sunderland
Black Cats’ goalkeeper, Simon Mignolet, expects a positive response to his side’s early exit from the Carling Cup and has tipped his side to bounce back from the loss when they face Liverpool over the weekend.
Despite their inability to cope to the premier league this season, West Ham United finally had something to cheer about when they defeated Sunderland, despite an impressive display from goalkeeper Simon Mignolet.
The keeper stated that their next game to Liverpool would be a huge one, owing to the heritage of the stadium. Mignolet added that there would be a different squad used against the 18 time English Champions and hoped that the Black Cats may well extract
something out of the encounter.
The shot-stopper notified that for the past few weeks, they have faced top quality sides and have managed to get the best out of them on each occasion. That is all that is asked from Sunderland, who managed to extract a draw thanks to an injury time goal
from Darren Bent against Arsenal last weekend.
Tottenham Hotspurs
Tottenham Hotspurs defender, Sebastien Bassong, has urged his fellow team mates to put their 4-1 humiliation against Arsenal in the Carling Cup behind and concentrate on the next match against West Ham United over the weekend.
As Carling Cup is considered to be a tournament for the youngsters, Spurs suffered from their team selection, left back Benoit Assou-Ekotto as being the only player from the side which defeated Wolverhampton Wanderers last week.
Yet, arch-rivals Arsenal emerged victorious from the Carling Cup third round. Bassong was the Captain of the side and stated that they would now want to concentrate on the West Ham game rather than living in the past.
