EPL News: Arsenal looking to sign future 'Wayne Rooney': Nick Powell
http://www.caughtoffside.com/2010/09/12/arsenal-to-complete-3-5m-january-move-to-sign-the-new-rooney/Arsene Wenger is on the verge of making another signature signing, the manager is fully focused to signing teenage attacking sensation, Nick Powell from Crewe Alexandra, to play for Arsenal at the Emirates.
According to a scouting report that was published on IMScouting: 'The 16-year-old has already been the subject of a £1million bid from Arsenal, according to the News of the World, but Crewe’s veteran boss Dario Gradi is holding out for more, having tied Powell down to a three year deal at the club.
Gradi has produced a long line of top players, all the way from David Platt to more recent examples of Dean Ashton and Danny Murphy.
Powell, who is an attacking midfielder and can also play as a striker, made his first-team debut this season at Cheltenham Town, but has starred for England at under-16 and under-17 level.'
The News of the World also states that Wenger is more then determined to make a bid for the player in January and that the manager will be making an offer that Crewe just cannot refuse. Wenger already has a decent reputation for harnessing young raw talent and making it the best in the world. If the player does join Arsenal then he would manage to achieve the best possible development that he could ask for.
The player is currently being managed by Dario Gradi at Crewe. Arsene Wenger admires Gradi who is a remarkable former and spotter of talent. Gradi is always looking to give young players a chances to prove their worth and it looks like he might have just laid his hands on a diamond in the rough with Nick Powell. The forward has already scored twice in three appearances for the England under-17 side and doesn't plan on slowing down any time soon.
The manager would be urging the player to stay at Crewe, however he would be more then aware of the fact, that when a team like Arsenal come knocking on the door, it is close to impossible to not let them in. What we can say for a fact is that, if the player does make the move to the Emirates, then he would get the best career assistance that he could hope for. Maybe in a couple of years he might even end up in the England first team, just like Theo Walcott did.
According to some rumors that have been floating around, Wenger plans on purchasing the player as early as January, but also plan's on loaning him back to the side from which he will be bought till the season comes to an end. That way both the teams would be happy and the player would get an extra six month to develop his skills even further.
The player would cost the team around three and a half million pounds, which would prove to be a good bargain as long as the player manages to live up to his expectations of being the next Wayne Rooney, however only time will tell if the player manages to do just that.
