EPL News: Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger slapped with misconduct charges by Football Association
The Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has been struck by the Football Association when they charged him with his actions at the Arsenal match against Sunderland this Saturday.
The match resulted in a late 1-1 draw that lead to the frustration of Gunners long time boss Wenger and concentrated by unleashing his anger at innocent persons on field.
It was the Darren Bent goal at the Stadium of Light that caused the Frenchman to get frustrated as the goal scored occurred 15 seconds after the referee added the additional 4 minutes at the end of the game.
It was the equalizer in the dying moments of the match that set of the 62 year old manager more than anything in the match. After the goal Wenger got so out of control that picked a quandary with match officials and even prodded the fourth match official
Martin Atkinson in the back.
This surely resulted in a complain being filed and it seemed that the FA was at heart partly unwilling to continue with the proceedings but they had no other option.
A press release from an official of the FA stated, “Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has been charged with using insulting and/or abusive language and behaviour amounting to improper conduct. The charges relate to Wenger's conduct towards match officials at
the conclusion of Arsenal's match against Sunderland on 18 September.”
It also stated, “Under The FA's new fast-track procedures, Wenger has until Thursday 23 September to respond to the charge and he has been offered a standard sanction of a one-match touchline ban and an £8,000 fine should he accept the charge. If he denies
the charge, the case will be heard by a Regulatory Commission.”
Wenger has been advocating his actions uttering that he sees no reason why additional time should be added apart from the time that had already been added earlier by the referee.
In the press conference after the Sunderland match, Wenger who has been managing the North Londoners since 1996 articulated against the match referee Phil Dowd, “It was outside the four minutes. I know the referee can give more than four, it's a minimum
of four minutes, but in the four minutes nothing happened to justify the extension of the time. But I cannot do anything about that.”
To add to Wenger and the Gunners misery was the dismissal of midfielder Alex Song when he was slapped with two yellow cards which ultimately resulted in a red.
When Wenger was asked about his suggestions on putting his hands on the match official Atkinson, Wenger lamented, “Take the pictures and look at it. I complain to nobody, especially not to you.”
Well Wenger is no bunny on his first day at the field when it comes to behaving irrationally against match officials. He has been in spot light of matters like these for some time now, though he hasn’t been the person who has been at fault always.
Just last season it was Wenger who received an apology from the chief of referees Keith Hackett when he dismissed the Gunners in an August 2009 fixture. The match was against Manchester United and Arsenal lost it 2-1.
In the match Wenger was sent off to the stands by referee Mike Dean in the last moments of the match at the Old Trafford Stadium. Later it was confirmed that the dismissal had occurred on the advice of the fourth official of the match Lee Probert.
It so happened that Wenger was sent off the field when he kicked a water bottle furiously in response to a disallowed goal that happened in the injury time of the game. The goal would have proven to be the equalizer for the match.
When Wenger was sent off he was not sure where to leave for first and therefore he placed himself at the Arsenal dug out and then at the main stand. Afterwards he was escorted to the tunnel along the touchline.
