EPL News: Arsenal’s Cesc Fabregas admits that Barcelona tried all methods to make the transfer possible
The Gunners skipper Cesc Fabregas has stated that neither Barcelona nor Arsenal should be blamed for their actions during this summer's transfer window as both clubs did what was in their best interest.
During this summer, both Barcelona and Arsenal fought over Fabregas as Barcelona demanded a transfer for their long lost son while Arsenal remained adamant that they rightfully owned his services.
Barcelona still ranted that they developed the player and they were the ones who should keep Fabregas. After becoming a prominent member in Barcelona’s youth academy, the prodigal player went on to play in Barcelona’s first team at the age of 15.
However, the young star soon realized that he could not shine for a very long time with Barcelona as he was constantly being overshadowed by players from the star studded team.
Barcelona’s midfield was emerging at that time and players like Andres Iniesta and Xavier Hernandez were rampaging towards dominance. In these circumstances, Fabregas realized that it was time to man up and find a new place to start his career.
He let the word out that his services were up for grabs. Soon, a good offer came from an English club. The club was Arsenal and it was managed by Frenchman Arsene Wenger at the time.
At the age of 16 years, Fabregas made his switch to North London in 2003. This was the time when Arsenal was at its prime, constantly dominating the English League and proving itself as a major threat in European tournaments.
Wenger groomed the young Spanish player at his club and soon he started breaking records in England. Despite being a young footballer, Fabregas became a regular inclusion in Arsenal's team as well. Fabregas learnt tricks and techniques from Arsenal's Thierry Henry and Patrick Vieira.
With the Gunners, Fabregas became more refined and established as one of the best midfielders in the world. Later, Arsenal also became known as the Invincibles after they went through an undefeated season.
Fabregas by now had become a regular feature in the team and manager Wenger relied heavily upon him. Since last summer, the Catalans have been demanding a return transfer of their players.
Wenger for obvious reasons has been rejecting their offers over and over again, reasoning that the price set by the Spanish giants is too less for Fabregas. Wenger has been apologising since last summer. However, the transfer saga intensified this summer when Fabregas demanded a transfer to Barcelona. The matter remained unresolved with Barcelona’s last bid coming at 33 million pounds.
Fabregas has stated that Barcelona did what was in their power to obtain him. He stated that the only reason why he stayed at Emirates was because Arsenal had asked him to and he had immense respect for the club.
The Spanish super star has already become the poster boy for Blaugrana and speculation is turning into reality that Fabregas will sign for the Spanish club for the next season.
With pressure mounting on Wenger from Barcelona’s newly appointed President Sandro Rosell, it is becoming inevitable that Fabregas will be playing at Nou Camp next summer and 'the Fabregas saga' will at last reach its logical conclusion.
While talking to the media, Fabregas said, “Barcelona made every effort to sign me, but Arsenal had told me to stay, which in no way I was going to refuse, and in the end I had to stay”.
Fabregas has stated that he wants to spend the rest of the time with Arsenal respectfully, adding that he wants his last season to “be professional and give it everything”.
The playmaker did however admit that he was not talking to the club anymore and matters were at a halt for now.
He commented, “What happens in the future? We'll see. I do not think of anything because if I think of the future it would not let me focus on the present and I would have a bad year”.
