EPL News: Arsenal’s injury tragedy before the Dark November, Persie, Walcott, Fabregas, Nasri, Bendtner & Ramsey injuries Part 2
In 2004 French man Arsene Wenger bought Van Persie and since then the player has played in 199 matches for the Gunners and scored 73 times. He has also made 37 assists. All in all Van Persie has 270 appearances under his belt and in them he has scored 88 times and assisted 37 times.
After an injury torn season Van Persie is considered to be one of the most fragile players on field. There would hardly be a season where the forward hasn’t been injured twice.
Along with Van Persie the English international Theo Walcott is also out for at least the next two weeks. This too has worsened the conditions for Arsenal. This justifies Wenger’s fear of losing valuable points this early in campaign.
Walcott has developed himself into a better player over time. He was omitted from the FIFA 2010 World Cup, as the England manager Fabio Capello stated that the player was not ready.
The 21-year-old has proved himself this time, and he has been included in the squad for the Euro 2012 qualifiers, and so far he had been presenting a beautiful show on the right wing. He has been doing the same with Arsenal too, as he has scored 4 goals in three matches. In England’s match against Switzerland, which England eventually won 3-1 the right-winger sustained an injury on his ankle and was immediately sent for scans.
At the London Colney training camp the player was examined further, and in the end it was announced that the player had injured his ankle, therefore needed rest. The injury came in the starting moments of the match as in the 13th minute Walcott turned awkwardly and damaged his ligaments. In the beginning it was assumed that Walcott had broken his ankle but later it was confirmed that the player received trauma on his leg, and therefore would not be able to play for at least 2 weeks.
The England manager Fabio Capello has stated that he is disappointed and sorry for him. He also stated the English team was finally gelling up, so he really was saddened because of the injury.
Still England will not suffer as much Arsenal will, as England has him replaced with the Manchester City forward Adam Johnson. Wenger, on the other hand, has nearly all of his strikers injured. The list includes Theo Walcott, Robin van Persie, Samir Nasri, Nicklas Bendtner and Aaron Ramsey and this is after just 3 games of the English Premier League.
Now Wenger can head his attack with only one option, and that would be of the newly acquired Moroccan player Marouane Chamakh. However, Chamakh has failed to impress so far, despite the fact that he has amazing heading qualities that were proved in the match against Liverpool and Blackpool.
Chamakh has lost the ball over and over again as he continued to make fail runs, nevertheless his heading capabilities do balance him out. Statistics show that 82% of the goals scored by Chamakh are scored by his head.
Still Wenger is on a very tough plane as the club has also lost the services of good midfielders recently. Names include Cesc Fábregas, Eduardo, Van Persie and William Gallas. All of these have either departed from the club or are on long-term injuries.
