EPL News: Arsene Wenger admits a volatile title race as Harry reveals January transfer window ambitions
Arsene Wenger, whose team lost their last league match to Tottenham Hotspurs in the English Premier League has come out and admitted that the current title race is the most volatile one that he has seen in as an Arsenal manager in the
English Premier League. Wenger’s team lost at the weekend to Hotspurs by three goals to two. It was a fascinating encounter in which Arsenal took a two goal lead through Nasri and Chamakh’s goals but Tottenham came back into the match through goals by Kaboul,
Bale and Van Der Vaart to win the match in the end.
By losing the match against Tottenham, Arsenal gave up the opportunity to go to the summit of the English league table as Chelsea, the league leaders also lost on the weekend to Birmingham City. Manchester United were the big winners of
the weekend as they won against Wigan Athletic while their nearest title contenders lost to their respective opponents.
Wenger who spoke to the media after his team’s 3-2 loss to Tottenham in the North London derby said, "It is a rollercoaster. Every team you think is there (at the top) and solid, suddenly they lose a game that nobody expected. It is emotionally
difficult for every single manager but for those who watch the league it makes it more interesting. Yes, at this stage of the season I have never seen the league as compact as it is at the moment."
Manchester United who are now joint leaders of the English Premier League along with Chelsea at the top of the league table have been the most consistent performers this season. United are unbeaten in the Premier League thus far and they
are the only team that have not even lost a single match in the 2010-2011 league season.
Arsene Wenger went onto say, "You cannot deny that mathematically (Spurs and City are in contention). Of course it is possible, but you have many other teams. Different teams like Liverpool and Aston Villa are not out of it. They have
potential. The most important thing is to be consistent and at the moment nobody is managing that apart from Manchester United, but they are consistent without many wins."
Wenger’s Arsenal play their next match against Braga in the UEFA Champions’ League group stages on Tuesday night. Arsenal lost their last league match in the UEFA Champions League as well as they fell short of achieving a result against
Shakhtar Donetsk in their latest group stage match. However, the Gunners will be without the likes of Gael Clichy and Arshavin.
Wenger spoke about his team’s condition before his team’s match against Braga, he said, "I have left behind (Gael) Clichy because he has a small back problem and we will take the opportunity to clear that out. I want to give (Andrei) Arshavin
a rest because he has played every single game recently and played for Russia on Wednesday night. (Robin) Van Persie is back in the squad but not 100 per cent physically conditioned to fight in a top-level game, so I will take advantage of that to make him
work very hard."
On the other hand, Harry Redknapp, the manager of Tottenham Hotspurs has also revealed in the media recently that he will be looking to buy one or two players in the January transfer window. Tottenham scooped up Rafael Van Der Vaart in
the summer transfer window for 8 million pounds from Real Madrid, a signing that left much of the Premier League clubs ain envy.
Redknapp stated, “I am looking to bring people in this January. We need to tweak it to finish it off. There's one or two other bits we could do, without spending a fortune that could make a difference to the team. We've a new training
ground coming; the club's in good shape and we can go forward. Tottenham have got a title in them in the next few years. I genuinely feel that - why shouldn't I? It's there for someone to pull off a surprise and our win at Arsenal gives us great confidence."
