EPL News: Aston Villa looking to make surprise bid for Arsenal midfielder
It has been reported that Arsenal's current replacement captain Tomas Rosicky has managed to find himself special in the eyes of Aston Villa’s manager, Gerard Houllier's wish list.
The midfielder who recently turned 30-years-old; was a prime target by the manager during his days as manager of Liverpool but the player opted to make a move for the Emirates instead. Houllier however is rather optimistic about landing
the player, after having secured the services of former Arsenal great Robert Pires recently.
The Czech international was being tipped to be on his way out of the club lately, due to the lack of playing time at the club. However most of that was due to fact that he suffered from some serious injury problems and as a result has
managed to play less than twenty five games for Arsenal, for a whole ninety minutes.
Nonetheless all of that seems to have changed lately. Once the new season started for Arsenal, the team's captain Cesc Fabregas managed to find himself at the wrong end of a series of hamstring injuries and is currently also still recovering
from his last encounter with a tweak to his hamstring. As a result Wenger has gone ahead and promoted Rosicky to become the captain of the Gunners in Fabregas’s absence. This means that the Czech international is now spending more time on the pitch then he
had in the past.
Apart from that another major hindrance in this potential move is the fact that when Rosicky was out injured for twenty months, instead of letting the player go, Arsenal helped him recover and get back to full fitness. What this leads
us to believe is that Wenger clearly has a bigger plan his mind for Rosicky therefore he probably wouldn’t let him go under any circumstances.
However that is of course unless Villa make a significant bid for the player to test Arsenal and Wenger's resolve. It is now a wait till January to see what cards Houllier will deal in Arsenal's direction and how they will respond.
