EPL News: Birmingham City versus Everton 0 – 2, Full time Analysis (Part 1)
Well Everton did finally deliver the shocker that everybody had been expecting for a long time, but the fashion in which they furnished it was truly something that only fate could have scripted.
The match at St. Andrews Stadium, the home of Birmingham City saw the men from Goodison Park finally emerge from the arena victorious. Well the triumph was helped by a Birmingham player, as defender Roger Johnson assisted the Toffees
in sweetening Everton’s first victory after a very long time.
It was the own goal from Johnson and a header in the dying moments of the game by Tim Cahill that ensured the victory for the People’s Club which at last broke Birmingham City’s 13 month long ‘Invincible’ home record.
After the victory, the David Moyes led side moved away from the bottom of the table to the 17th place. It was a well deserved victory even if the goals did come awkwardly and proof of that were the fine plays along with
ball domination by Everton.
They seldom lost the ball and made long intricate plays that the Birmingham City got lost in deciphering. Over all the Toffees played much more like a team that had finished on the top half of the table last season, being placed
just below their fierce rivals Liverpool at 8th.
Goals occurred as Johnson deflected a low flying cross from Leon Osman which went travelling past the unsuspecting Birmingham shot stopper Ben Foster in the 54th minute.
That goal was followed by the 90th minute, injury time score by Cahill at the Leighton Baines’ centre in front of a jaw dropped crowd who were expecting a leveller. In Birmingham’s failure one thing was certain and that
was the home fans being upset about the loss. The reason behind the fall was a team that had been rising team in present times with the addition of new talented players. Being defeated at their home definitely is one of the worst heart breaking scenarios a
football fan can go through.
Everton’s classy performance finally lifted up the team in the English Premier League largely because of help from Mikel Arteta, Leon Osman and Marouane Fellaini. The Three Musketeers hailing from the Blue part of Merseyside accomplished
a brilliant job in the midfield and won nearly all battles and skirmishes.
They created plenty of opportunities to score but the somewhat rusty finishers from Everton failed in delivering therefore Johnson came in to lend them a hand and create an even larger rift in the already complicated score list
this year.
This loss for Birmingham put a halt in the race to break the all time record of Birmingham to 19 consecutive invincible games at St. Andrews.
In reality Birmingham City, who have managed to win just 2 of their last 17 league games, were deficient in solidity, placement and flow through the midfield. There was also a lack of plays at the wings and that was one of the
major reasons that lead the club down.
