EPL News:  Cesc Fabregas saga ends with the summer, Barcelona attempts towards Fabregas’ Arsenal transfer impossible Part 2
Cesc Fabregas was pivotal in Arsenal’s success in the campaign and this is the reason why Wenger is so unwilling to let Fabregas leave from the club. Wenger totally understands the bond that Fabregas presents for Arsenal in the midfield, which will be impossible to fill after his departure.
In the beginning of this summer Fabregas was approached again by Barcelona as they reminded him of a possible return back to his home. Fabregas was of course interested and he told them that he would have to convince his manager Wenger to let him go, as he still had a binding contract with the club.
When he approached Wenger, the French man was outraged at the idea and rebuked it. Fabregas was keen on making the move and returning back to his home; he became more persistent in his demands but they were met by constant refusals from the manager.
In the end due to this constant demand of a transfer to Barcelona, the relationship between Wenger and Fabregas thinned. Barcelona eventually approached Arsenal with a formal offer for the player but Wenger laughed it off saying that there was no possible way he letting Fabregas proceed with a transfer.
The situation got out of hand, when Fabregas approached the manager with a more emphatic approach to demand a transfer out of the club. Wenger and Fabregas hence had a heated conversation about the transfer, which brought more strain in their relationship.
To make matters worse Barcelona approached the club with a 20 million pounds offer for the star but Wenger immediately said no. On further insistence from Barcelona and Fabregas, he stated that the price offered by the Catalans was too low, and if they really wanted to sign him they would have to have to up their price range.
In return Barcelona came with a bid of 23 million pounds which was still unacceptable to Wenger, who also replied that if the management at Nou Camp really wanted the talented midfielder, they would have to present an offer of 60 million pounds just get started on the negotiations.
Barcelona of course refused such a possibility. Meanwhile Fabregas and his family came up to Wenger to ask for a transfer, as they all wanted to return back home but again Wenger refused the request. Meanwhile the FIFA 2010 World Cup was approaching, and that meant Fabregas had to travel back home and play for his nation.
That also meant that the star had to play with his fellow countrymen, which ironically mostly played in the club that he was getting transfer offers from. Wenger realized this that matters were not going in his favour, therefore had a one-on-one chat with the player.
He told him that he was like a son to him, and that it was not a good sign to abandon his club when it needed him most. After some inspirational talk and some future advices, he told the midfielder to concentrate on playing for Spain in the World Cup now, and leave the rest to him.
He also confirmed that when Fabregas would return the Barcelonan matter would be resolved once and for all. Fabregas commented on the conversation with Wenger stating that Arsenal was no doubt like a family to him and London was like his second home.
He also mentioned that the conversation with Wenger had been the most motivating conversations of his life. Fabregas commented that he considered Wenger as his father and, therefore, was going to take his advice.
In the 2010 World Cup in South Africa Fabregas was overshadowed again by Xavi and Iniesta, both of whom also played in the Spanish national squad. Though he was unable to star in the first line-up, he later on progressed and gave outstanding performances in the tournament.
