EPL News: Chelsea Eye Bolton’s Gary Cahill
Carlo Ancelotti is now considering spending in the January transfer window, following Captain John Terry’s unexpected long term injury. The player he has his eyes on is Bolton’s centre back Gary Cahill, the youngster who is also being
chased by London rivals Arsenal and other top clubs.
Sources reveal that Ancelotti’s side might have to make do with John Terry, who is suffering from back injury which is only curable by rest. Brazilian defender Alex is also out with an injury and since Ancelotti did not replace Ricardo
Carvalho in the summer, the Blues are facing serious depth in their squad.
Their defence has been exposed and that has resulted in the Blues losing back to back matches in the Premier League. The Blues first suffered defeat at the hands of Sunderland at Stamford Bridge and yesterday lost out to Birmingham with
one goal. If Chelsea hope to maintain their lead at the top, they need to bring in reinforcements during the January transfer window to strengthen the squad.
Cahill has been very impressive for Bolton over the past few seasons and has scored five goals in 29 appearances in the last season. He was essential in helping Owen Coyle’s side avoid relegation and maintain a spot in the top flight.
Carlo Ancelotti will be hoping to bring the defender over to Stamford Bridge to replace the injured John Terry and Alex.
The defender was excellent over the last season and Fabio Capello was considering him for the World Cup squad, but he had to be ruled out because of an arm injury. Since then, he has been awarded his first England cap against Bulgaria
and his buying out clause has been pushed out to £17.5 million.
Blues boss Ancelotti will be pleased to hear that Bolton chairman Phil Gartside admitted in statement last week that he may be forced to sell some players over the January transfer window to avoid debt. Cahill may be one of the players
on their way out; he has outgrown the club and will be looking for a way out.
