EPL News: Chelsea replaces Wilkins with Emenalo, McCarthy voices discontent over Jarvis’ treatment
Chelsea have finally replaced Ray Wilkins with their new assistant manager, Michael Emenalo. The Nigerian national will take over from Ray Wilkins after the Englishman parted ways with the London club when he was informed that his contract
will not be renewed with the Blues. Emenalo will have his first game as Chelsea’s assistant manager on the upcoming weekend against Birmingham City.
Nonetheless, Emenalo has been working as a head opposition scout for the Blues since late 2007. It was speculated that maybe Chelsea will look towards their own squad of management professionals and that is exactly what has happened. Chelsea
confirmed Emenalo’s appointment with a press statement on their official website.
The club confirmed, "Chelsea Football Club is pleased to announce the appointment of Michael Emenalo to the position of assistant first-team coach. He moves up from his previous position of head opposition scout. Michael has been an important
part of the first team management structure since his arrival in October 2007, and his promotion to assistant first team coach is recognition of his efforts to date. Michael will continue to oversee the first team scouting operation as he makes the transition
to coaching. He will split the initial period between assisting first-team coach Carlo Ancelotti and updating his coaching qualifications as he takes on this bigger and more influential role."
Avram Grant was the man who brought Emenalo to Chelsea when he was the first team manager at the club. Carlo Ancelloti, Chelsea’s current manager was appreciative of Michael, as he said, "Michael Emenalo is doing a fantastic job as head
opposition scout and he is already working very close to me”.
In other news, Mick McCarthy, Wolverhampton Wanderers manager was critical of the way his player Matt Jarvis after he had been told that he was not selected for the English squad which faced France at the Wembley stadium.
Mick spoke to the media as he said, "Of course the hopes (of Jarvis) had been built up. I said in the press conference before last week's game with Bolton that he'd been named in the provisional squad. Of course, Jarvis had some good competition
in Ashley Young, Adam Johnson and also Stewart Downing. My point is that if you get notification that you might be called up, you might then get a call or text from someone to say 'sorry, you're not in'. We've all got each other's numbers but you find out
through the media that Jarvis isn't going.”
The ex-Irish national team manager added, "There might be a different way of handling that, if you are not going to be called up, a little phone call or text might not be out of order. A text saying 'sorry, you are doing brilliant keep
going, a pat and the head' would do no harm."
McCarthy’s Wolverhampton Wanderers face Blackpool at Bloomfield Road on Saturday in what is anticipated to be a tough Premier League encounter. Ian Holloway and McCarthy were at odds in the media just a couple of weeks ago but Mick poured
cold water over the situation as he explained, "It was done and dusted a week ago when he said sorry. It was all a bit of a mix-up. It's all put to bed. We've always had the greatest respect for each other and are good football pals."
