EPL News: Chelsea’s performance analysis vs. West Bromwich Albion - Part 2
In the middle of half-time, Malouda got another opportunity to score from a brilliant pass struck in the midfield. He reacted splendidly well to it but the ball went inches past from the goal post as the Frenchman squeezed it past the goal keeper.
Chelsea was doing well to accomplish their new signature defending which was quite effective in disrupting the opponents’ plays. In doing so, they created panic amongst the opposition who were positioned for an attack. The Blues took advantage of that and quite often produced successful assaults.
Essien was the star in the midfield as he continued to defend and attack along with assisting his forwards. He seemed to have trained well for this moment and from his performance, it can be anticipated that he will be an important part for Chelsea this season.
In contrast to Chelsea, West Brom was working with poor passing that was intercepted by the men in blue far too often. But that was partly credited to some impressive defending by Chelsea.
Anelka and Ferreira were making nice combinations on the right wing and the entire team showed an elite level of chemistry between them. This is another achievement that Ancelotti has managed to pull out from the magical hat.
Chelsea kept Albion’s assaults at bay quite easily while the latter kept evading them very closely. On the 30th minute mark, Anelka made a couple of excellent steals and brought on a brilliant charge for the Blues.
In the 34th minute, Chelsea got a corner from which Albion produced a counter attacking chance from long pass to Bednar but he failed to score.
Near to the end of the half, Albion kept on attacking from both wings but kept missing opportunities. Quite similarly, Lampard attacked in 38th with an intelligent pass to Malouda who missed the ball, completely misjudging it.
Drogba won a free kick in 39th minute and he along with Lampard line up to take it. Drogba faked it while Lampard launched towards the keeper. Carson’s efforts were futile again as he was unable to contain the force on the ball. Therefore it reached Malouda who sent it flying over the net.
In the 43rd minute, Albion went into frenzy and launched a number of attacks but some solid defence is what they met in return. Brunt finally took some good effort but they were blocked again and finally the ball flew over.
Near the end of the half, Chelsea stole the ball beautifully and Essien drove in for a goal but was stopped. However, he was able to win a free kick from a dangerous zone in the 45th minute.
Who were the best in the field; Lampard and Drogba came up to take it. Drogba took it in the end and brought a stunner goal as he launched the ball between a small gap through the wall. Half-time score: Chelsea 2 West Brom Albion 0.
