EPL News: De Jong builds up City’s visit to Fulham as Richards says that they are not a one man team
De Jong has come out on the offensive and talked up City’s chances of doing well in the English Premier League in the future. The Manchester club has had a disappointing couple of weeks as they drew their last two home matches against Manchester United and
Birmingham City. For their next encounter, City travel to London to face their ex-managers club side, Fulham F.C.
De Jong spoke about City’s season as he said, "We're like a boxer in the corner at the moment and we're trying to fight our way out. We've taken a few punches and now it's time to starting battling back. Against Birmingham we were expected to win - and should
have done because we had enough chances - but we didn't play as well as we can and they came to stifle our play. The important thing is, despite not being at our best, we still picked up something. What was disappointing is that a lot of teams around us also
dropped points and we didn't take advantage of it."
He went onto say, "It will be an interesting game on Sunday because obviously we are playing our old manager and he knows most of our squad. I think it will be a difficult game because even though Fulham haven't won too many matches, they haven't lost many
either. Craven Cottage is a difficult place to go, but we have to go there looking for nothing less than three points and take the game to them."
Carlos Tevez, Manchester City’s striker has been built up by the press as the main man at City but Richards has come out and stated otherwise in his recent interview. Micah Richards, City’s right back said, "Carlos is a striker, he scores goals. Adam Johnson
is a provider, so he provides, along with David Silva. (Nigel) De Jong and Gareth Barry do the running around for the team, so everyone has a job. Sometimes we get called a one-man team, but there are other players in the team who do a fantastic job as well."
City will travel to Fulham with their striker Carlos Tevez in their ranks but Mario Balotelli will miss the trip down south due to his suspension. Richards added, "We need to score a few more goals but we have had three clean sheets in our last three games,
so we are happy and are moving in the right direction. We are doing a bit better than last season and the Champions League is our aim."
Manchester City spent a lot of money in the summer transfer window of 2010 as they bought the likes of Balotelli, Silva, Yaya Toure and Boateng. Richards has admitted that teams now perform better against City as they work extra hard to beat them. He said,
"I remember back in the day when everyone used to play twice as hard against United. Because of the quality in our team now, everyone is playing twice as hard against us. It is a little bit harder, but that comes with it and I think we have to try twice as
hard as well. With the quality we have got, there is no reason why we shouldn't be winning."
